Another repulsive story of two beautiful animals being seized and deemed “dangerous dogs”. Chum and Champ are Newfoundland dogs, a very docile breed and not known for any signs of aggression. The breed’s finest traits are its intelligence, loyalty and sweetness of character.
Chum and Champ, owned by an elderly Black Creek couple, Edith and Jacques Manseau, are being held at the Comox Valley SPCA. The family has not been allowed to see their beloved pets since they were seized 8 months ago. The family is continuing to fight for their pets return but are calling out for support.
These two beautiful dogs have been accused of attacking a neighbours dog however there are no witnesses to support such. Please watch both their assessment videos and share their story online by cross posting on Facebook, posting on forums and websites and via Twitter.

Plans for the large-scale shooting of badgers in a misguided attempt to eradicate bovine tuberculosis (bTB) in cattle are well advanced and could begin in parts of England within the next few weeks.
HSI/UK not only believes that the policy is misguided, it is also greatly concerned that many thousands of badgers could be injured and left to suffer a slow and painful death.

Tyson (3 Yr. old) and Diesel (7 Mo. old) were unfairly removed from their home and loving family. They have never injured anyone or had any prior complaints, yet they were deemed vicious based on the opinion and prejudice of a police officer and the next door neighbor who stated to the owners when they moved in, that he hates Pit Bulls. The same neighbor who would hits the chain linked fence from his yard that divide’s the two properties with a rake and yell at them in attempt to scare the dogs. However, the neighbor has six small dogs and multiple cats of his own running around. In Highland Twp., there is no type of ban against Bit Bulls that would rationalize removing them from their loving home.
On July 26th, 2012 the elderly next door neighbor called the Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept. claiming that two Pitt Bulls where in his yard and “nipped at his legs”, the neighbor stated that he waved them away with a watering can. When the Sheriff and Animal control deputies arrived the neighbor was outside. Tyson and Diesel where in their own yard and were barking, as any breed of dog would do to strangers approaching at 9:00 p.m. The animal control Deputy tried to snare them, but they kept their distance 6-7 feet away and were unable to catch them. Shortly after that the owner arrived home, unaware that either of his dogs was out of the fenced in back yard. Tyson was curled up in the corner of the neighbor’s yard shaking and scared. The owner picked Tyson up and put him in his house as directed by the deputy. Diesel was in the back yard, inside the fence so the owner walked through the house and put Diesel inside too. There is not a gate leading to the back yard so we are unsure how Diesel was still in there. It is believed that Tyson possibly jumped the fence by using a truck cap that was recently placed in the back yard. Diesel is still a puppy and much smaller than Tyson, so it is unlikely he did the same due to the distance between the cap and the fence.
The owner was given a misdemeanor ticket for Possession of a Vicious/Dangerous Animal and told to appear in court. These loving so call "Vicious" dogs were permitted to reside in their owner’s possession for 10 days, without incident preceding the court hearing for the ticket. During that hearing on August 6th, 2012 both dogs were remanded by Judge Bondy to be turned over to Oakland County Animal Shelter within 24 hours, where they have been kept in small individual cages 24/7 for the last 17 days. It was never specified exactly what it was that determined they were vicious other than they barked at them. This is a heartbreaking tragedy for all that know and love these sweet dogs, that they may be condemned to death simply because of a misconception of their breed and from other careless pet owners who have caused them to be labeled as dangerous.
Tyson and Diesel have spent countless hours interacting with children, cats and dogs of all sizes. They have never displayed aggressive behavior in any way. They are well trained, socialized, obedient and most of all gentle dogs. They love to play and swim at the beach where they have been in contact with various people including strangers without any problems. They are extremely well mannered dogs; their owner has trained them from puppy’s to allow anyone to take things from them. All the owners, family and friends want is their family members back, but they are in grave danger of being euthanized in the next week! With heavy hearts, we are begging for mercy for them!

The plight of Lennox, a seven-year-old dog described as an American bulldog and Labrador cross, has captured the hearts of animal lovers and activists across the world after he was seized two years ago.
His owner, Caroline Barnes, argued he has never bitten anyone and is not a risk, and embarked on a lengthy legal wrangle to have Lennox spared.
But after a court order reprieve period expired at midnight last night, Lennox was put down.
In a statement, Belfast City Council said: "Belfast City Council confirmed today that the dog Lennox, an illegal pit-bull terrier type, has been humanely put to sleep. This was in accordance with the Order of the County Court which was affirmed by the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal.
"Whilst there is an exemption scheme to which dogs of this type (pit-bull terrier type) may be admitted as an alternative to destruction, there were no such measures that could be applied in this case that would address the concerns relating to public safety.

The only people besides the Queen who have any authority to help Lennox at this point are the Northern Ireland Attorney General, John Larkin, and the Minister of Agriculture, Michelle O'Neil. The e-mail addresses for them are as follows:

The e-mails needed are to request that these two support the plea for the Royal Prerogative of Mercy. This time, the letters need to all say the same thing. The wording requested by the Lennox Campaign members for these e-mails is as follows:
I am writing to you as one of over 182,500 people worldwide who have signed a petition to support and demand the release of Lennox who is currently held at an unknown location by Belfast City Council. Following a legal appeal heard by the Court of Appeal NI, Lennox has been sentenced to die and we urgently request a stay of execution of the dog Lennox by the power vested in you until the following has been clarified:
A request for clemency has been submitted to Her Majesty the Queen and to all senior politicians in Northern Ireland, requesting that Lennox be spared the death sentence and be allowed to be exported out of the UK to where safe sanctuary is waiting for him.
We believe there have been irregularities in the judicial handling of the case and there is worldwide anger and serious reservations concerning the treatment of the dog and that this may be a cover-up to hide the damage done to him while in the care of Belfast City Council
Failing clemency, with no permission to export, the right of the family to have a final visit with their dog and be allowed to receive his body (currently rumoured to be withheld by Belfast C.C) is surely a basic right for a family grieving for their family member.
A death penalty, issued to an innocent animal, is due to be executed by Tuesday 10th July. Lennox, a much loved family companion, was seized two years ago, by council officials in Belfast City Council as an alleged “pit bull type”, he has been ordered by the courts to be destroyed and this decision was tragically upheld by the Court of Appeal NI.
Lennox has never harmed anyone; he has been prosecuted based on his appearance-for looking the wrong shape and size under breed specific legislation in NI.
Her Majesty the Queen and all senior politicians are urgently requested to use the Royal Prerogative of Mercy, which we understand starts where the law finishes and applies where a conviction and sentence has been arrived at; Lennox’s family and thousands of supporters worldwide plead for mercy.
We understand that The Royal Prerogative has been applied in NI, being used in the past by the then Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Mandelson and that a Judicial Review IN THE HIGH COURT OF JUSTICE IN NORTHERN IRELAND McGeough’s (Terence) Application [2012] NIQB 11 also examined this power as did a Judicial Review (EWHC 3102 Admin) on 17th Dec. 2008 in the case of Michael Shields before the High Courts of Justice in London. We understand that it should only be exercised where no other remedies exist and that the effect of a pardon is not to quash the conviction but releases the recipient from "all pains, penalties and punishments whatsoever that from the said conviction may ensure".
Please, we beg you, to intervene, order a stay of execution; whilst you investigate an application for clemency and any and all other legal routes to enable Lennox to be exported out of Northern Ireland. Failing that, please insist on a stay of execution so that a clear and transparent investigation is carried out in this case so that this dog is not wrongfully put to death and doubts regarding his current condition are set at rest.
Citizens from all over the world are asking you to restore faith in the judicial system on behalf of the citizens of Northern Ireland.
I beg you to intervene urgently, please order a stay of execution and have this case investigated urgently and any and all avenues to enable the export of Lennox fully reviewed.
Please do this one final act to speak out for mercy for Lennox. He deserves to be allowed to move to the United States to live out his life in peace, and not die at the hands of strangers for no reason other than his looks.

Belfast City Council claim Lennox poses a serious risk to his owners and members of the public.
Dog wardens targeted in hate mail
Workers in Belfast City Council have become the target of a fresh series of intimidating and threatening messages over their decision to put down a dog.
Police have been alerted after a campaign to save the pit bull terrier-type dog, Lennox, took a sinister turn.
In June, Northern Ireland's most senior judges rejected Caroline Barnes' legal bid to overturn an order for the destruction of her pet.
Lennox could be put down after midnight when a deadline for legal appeals ends.
The dog was seized by Belfast City Council dog wardens in May 2010. He was assessed to be a danger to the public and subsequently ordered to be put down
Two lower courts had already ruled that the dog should be put down.
Ms Barnes, 35, had accepted her pet was a pit-bull type, but claimed there had been a failure to properly consider a possible exemption scheme.
Her battle for Lennox became an international campaign to save his life. It went "viral" on the social media network and attracted tens of thousands of well wishers.
Well-known people including boxer Lennox Lewis and Northern Ireland's First Minister Peter Robinson were among those who used Twitter to call for the dog to be spared.
"Spoke to Lord Mayor about Lennox. Suggested BCC should seriously look at re-homing option. Why exercise the Order if there's an alternative?" Mr Robinson tweeted.
Boxer Lewis tweeted: "Why is @BelfastCC intent on killing this dog when other options available?"
However, others took the campaign to extremes and Belfast council workers became the focus of intimidation and abuse.
Last year, threatening letters, one drenched in petrol, were put through the letter-boxes of two female dog wardens. Another staff member had her car tyres slashed outside her home.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Belfast City Council said workers had received "a significant number of intimidating and threatening messages in the last number of days".
"The council acknowledges the good will on the part of a significant number of people who would wish to have the dog Lennox spared from being humanely put to sleep," the statement said.
"The council has a duty which it performs reluctantly in order to ensure public safety. Re-homing will not deal with the issues in this case- the dog has been found to be unpredictable and dangerous by experts. That view is shared by the courts and the dog is now the subject of an order by the courts."
The council said it would be "reckless and irresponsible" simply to move Lennox to somewhere else where it would pose the same danger to others.

***INTERNATIONAL BATTLE FAILS TO SAVE LENNOX***
THE BATTLE to save Lennox, a Belfast pit bull terrier-type dog at the centre of a two-year legal controversy, comes to an end today.
The dog was deemed dangerous by Northern Ireland’s most senior judges in the Court of Appeal last month, after being seized from his home in 2010 as a breed banned under the UK’s Dangerous Dogs Act. Two lower courts previously ruled that the seven-year-old dog posed a danger to the public.
The Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Act 1997 in England and Wales was extended to Northern Ireland last year. The legislation introduced a discretionary element to automatic destruction for pit bull-type dogs, based on whether the animal is deemed a danger to the public.
The 28-day reprieve after the last court date runs out this evening, and Lennox is due to be destroyed this week, if not today.
A council spokesperson said the destruction order “is an order of the court, which was affirmed on appeal. The council is under a duty to comply with the order.”
The Save Lennox campaign had gained international attention, with protests taking place in New York yesterday following a march on Belfast City Hall last Saturday. The online petition had more than 188,000 signatures and a large following on Facebook and Twitter.

An individual has been torturing and killing cats over the last five years. He always adopted former stray cats for this abuse. Every time he tortures and kills a cat, the whole process is described vividly and posted on various online popular forums in China, using different ID names.
Excerpt from his online diary on the torture of a cat named Peanut, 27-05-2011:
I used to hang the cats previously. This is not exciting enough. I just pass on what I found out about cats:
1. A cat is not afraid to be beaten. Use a stick to hit the cat violently can only make it scared, angry, and even wounded. But it is difficult to make it feel pain. Anyway, I wanted her to be in pain, to make it feel pain.
2. To provoke domestic cats, pulling the tail is definitely effective. It is difficult to make Peanut angry, but later in the experiment I found that pulling her tail immediately makes her furious, ha ha!
3. Flesh isn't sensitive to pain, but bones are. This time I intend to twist her front legs, even break them, I love to listen the loud cries of pain from the cat.
There is an increasing number of cases where individuals torture animals and publicise widely on the internet their abuse and the satisfaction they get from such acts. Research has proven repeatedly that animal abuse and violent behaviour in society are strongly linked.
Although these instances of animal abuse cause outrage among Chinese citizens and animal groups, there Is not much they can do. It shows yet again that the adoption of proper animal welfare legislation in China is an urgent need. Therefore we are asking individuals from all over the world to ask the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to pass animal protection laws as soon as possible.

Dogs are suffering a hellish death by being baked alive for a 'better flavor', due to extreme release of stress hormone adrenaline. Needs no explanation, but this is important to save innocent dogs from this unspeakable horror and restore some common decency for the good humans in China, who object to this.
It is legal and accepted and encouraged in China to put dogs into sacs ALIVE, and then into ovens to slow bake them ALIVE! We know the government and culture in China has difficulty seeing that animals must not be tortured. In China they are subjected to the unthinkable, of being skinned while alive and conscious for furs, beaten to make their meat more tender, cats boiled alive for food, dogs baked ALIVE, monkey brain dinners on LIVE monkeys, eating LIVE fish, and poaching endangered wildlife for bogus oriental medicine (example rhino horn which is merely keratin - no magic there!), and many more obvious offenses and atrocities. The culture looks at animal rights as 'laughable' and the only way to exert pressure for change is with boycotting of tourism, and products. Sanctions are necessary, but the U.S. government won't do that....we are in financial debt to China.

********OUR BEAUTIFUL COLLIE DEE********
Our beautiful girl Dee was a collie that we rescued from a very cruel enviroment. She was so nervous that she would even run even away from the wind! If we had visitors she would run upstairs and sit on the landing shaking.
Over time she learnt to trust us and became the most wonderful companion you could wish for.
We had certain friends visit that had a young boy, and he use to thrash Dee around the head with a towel, he was caught doing this when we realised he was shutting himself in the bathroom with Dee, as if she had,nt been through enough in her life there was no way we were going to tolerate this, and im pleased to say this evil boy,s father grabbed hold of him and dunked him head first in our water butt, he wasn,t any more trouble after that.
Also At this particular time we had very nasty next door nieghbours who had 2 children, one of whom use to hit Dee on the head with sticks when i was out walking her.
I was very young at the time and when i told my step Dad he put it down to childhood tit tat and refused to believe me.
Over time we noticed Dee would go crazy if she heard high pitched noises and would snap at all children she came into contact with which was hardly surprising. But it was the reaction she had to high pitch noises that concerned us, she would run round in circles howling and going totally crazy. On examination at the vets we were given the devastating news that she had a brain tumour and were advised to have her PTS.
I truly believe it was these 2 evil brats that caused it, more so the one that hit her with sticks, i know it will never be proven but i will never forgive these kids for the way they treated her and will always believe that they contributed to her death.
Sadly we dont have Dee,s Birth date or a date for her passing, we think it was around 1984 or 1985. We only had her around 3 years.
We carry her in our hearts forever and continue to love and miss her very deeply xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

News that Twenty-five (25) bottlenose dolphins that once roamed free and wild are now facing a life of captivity and sadness as permanent residents of Resorts World - Sentosa, Singapore. These 25 dolphins were captured in the waters of the Solomon Islands and are now being kept in the Philippines while the new facility at Resorts World Sentosa is being built. Two of them have already tragically died. ******OUR BEAUTIFUL TREASURE 10/6/82----10/4/93******
Our little girl Treasure was dumped out of a car by Americans who decided they no longer wanted her, when she was just over a year old. As long as i live i will never understand how people can be so cruel. She ended up at Kirton Kennels which is how we came by her and her story. Of cause this made her even more special and we showered her with the love that she so much deserved.
She would take our other 2 dogs toys and treats and guard them, not letting them have them, such a funny, loving little girl, who loved nothing better than a lap to curl up on. Loved her walks on the park, where she would stay by your side the whole time, she was the boss putting our other 2 dogs in place if they wound her up or were causing mischief.
We sadly had to have our beautiful girl PTS On 10th April 1993 after she delveloped kidney problems, we tried every medication possible even travelling miles to get her healing crystals and alternative herbal medicines all to no avail. She is buried in the garden along with the many other lost and loved furries. She will live on in our hearts forever and left us with so many special memories. Forever loved and missed xx Stay close little Lady, our little bossy boots, still miss you so very very much darling

******** DOGS DIE TO TEACH PERU'S SOLDIERS HOW TO KILL********( Full Story Below )

Barechested commandos brandishing knives take turns to charge towards a live dog, tied and spreadeagled between vertical poles. They slash and stab the helpless, yelping animal until it dies. Then, in a grotesque act of military machismo, the soldiers eat the dog's heart and drink its blood.
The troops belong to the Peruvian army and the slaughter of the dog is the climax of a series of 'bravery tests' to train them to be ruthless killers.
The barbaric ritual has been uncovered by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), a British charity which last night expressed disgust at the cruelty.
Jonathan Owen, a spokesman for the charity, said: "This is one of the worst cases of animal cruelty we have ever come across. Unlike most other forms of animal abuse, there is no commercial motive behind this.
"It is pure, unadulterated cruelty. They are using an animal that cannot defend itself to practise killing. They call it war games but this game always ends in the animal's death."
The cruelty was recorded by a cameraman who was invited to film the army's Otorongo Command Group 125, near Lima, the Peruvian capital. Shocked by what he saw, the cameraman passed the video to the WSPA.
The film shows the soldiers doing a number of other tests before they attack the dog. These include running through a ring of fire, and standing in a circle throwing a grenade to each other before one of them tosses it into the middle and they all dive to the ground as it explodes.
For the final challenge the soldiers run 20 yards towards the suspended dog, clutching an attack knife with an eight-inch blade. Some slash the animal just once; the more enthusiastic stab it repeatedly.
The mongrel can move its head but is otherwise utterly defenceless. It can only scream as the knives rip through its skin. Worse, the dog is a camp pet that belongs to the soldiers, an extra detail to ensure that these killers are rendered truly heartless, unhindered by emotion or sentiment.
Once the animal is dead and the soldiers have completed the test, they put their hands into the open wounds, pull out the innards and heart, tear them up and eat them.
The aim is to turn them into men who are not merely untroubled by the sight of blood, but positively relish it.
The brutal ritual ends with one of the soldiers putting the dog around his neck like a victory laurel and leading the troop on a 'lap of honour' around the training ground.
Maj-Gen Peter Davies, the WSPA's director general, said: "There is no justification for such brutal training methods. Inflicting great suffering on a helpless animal is unnecessary, unacceptable and has no place in any civilised armed force."
The Peruvian government admits that live dogs have been used in military training but claims that the practice has been banned since August. A ministry of defence spokesman says that the exercise shown on the video took place before the ban was introduced.
"The exercises shown on the video are currently strictly forbidden in all Peruvian military institutions," the spokesman says. "At present no animals are being used in exercises carried out during military training."
However, the WSPA believes the practice is still continuing. Gerardo Huertas, the society's Latin America regional director, said: "Abuse of animals by the military has been going on in Peru for decades and we believe that it is also happening in other countries in Central and South America and elsewhere.
"These images of young soldiers mutilating dogs until they die are grotesque, a chilling reminder that we have to redouble our efforts to fight against animal crimes all over the world.
"People who are trained to protect the civil, religious or democratic acts of a nation should never be required to behave in such a way. It's frightening to think what kind of people those soldiers will be when they come out of the army."
Armando Lecaros-de-Cossio, Peru's ambassador to Britain, said that he was shocked by the video. "No civilised person could condone what is happening in that video," he said. Mr Lecaros-de-Cossio described himself as "an animal-lover."
He had kept dogs for many years and was about to buy one for his 11-year-old daughter Louise.
"Louise has been begging for a puppy from Scottie [a colleague's golden retriever] and we hope that will be happening shortly. She adores dogs," he said.
The Peruvian army is currently being investigated in connection with atrocities committed during 20 years of fighting between security forces, civilians and the brutal Sendero Luminoso - Shining Path - guerrillas.
Investigators belonging to a "Truth Commission" have exhumed the bodies of dozens of villagers said to have been massacred by government troops and guerrillas between 1980 and 2000.
The armed forces have so far failed to respond to the commission's inquiries, even though 13,000 people have testified.

Tortured ... two-year-old Ellie

A SICK cat killer who hacked off a moggy's tail before hanging her from a metal fence is being hunted.
The RSPCA want to track down the vile thug who tortured Ellie, two, before wedging her body between two metal spikes.
The charity has released this photograph of the lifeless black and white cat in a bid to find the person responsible.
The horror happened just yards from owner Kerrie Parker's home in Gravesend, Kent.
Miss Parker, 19, said she has been having nightmares ever since she found her.
She said: "When I looked down the alleyway and saw she was there I just stopped where I was, I couldn't move.
"It was really horrendous.
"I've no idea who did this to a defenceless little animal but whoever it is obviously sick in the head.
"Ellie was the first born kitten of my mum's cat and she was the one that was my cat.
"We have her daughter and her brother too and they've noticed she's gone missing.
"They're just moping around and are not themselves."
Last week the animal charity was forced to release pictures of two lurcher dogs after they were found hanged from a Leicestershire bridge.
Each dog was hung by the neck and thrown off either side of the bridge so that both dangled in mid-air before being discovered by a shocked motorist.
RSPCA inspector Alison Fletcher said of the latest incident: "We think that Ellie was put there deliberately.
"She had no other injuries, apart from her tail being cut off.

A SICKO strung up his pet dog in a bunker and left it to die a long agonising death, a court heard yesterday.
Cruel Christopher Collyer, 25, deliberately hung cute springer spaniel Charlie so his hind legs could just touch the floor.
Horrific ... Charlie choked when back legs collapsed
The dog survived until his emaciated back legs collapsed and he then choked to death.
He was found hanging by his lead in a bunker in woods in Keighley, West Yorks.

Collyer was meant to take him to a farm that took in unwanted pets after his parents could no longer care for him.
The RSPCA officer who dealt with the incident said it was the "most horrifying case" he had ever seen.
But Collyer, of Morecambe, Lancs, denied cruelty, claiming he gave the pedigree dog - a birthday gift to his mother - to a woman he met while out walking Charlie.

Last month he was convicted at Bradford Magistrates' Court. The jobless dad-of-two was jailed for 24 weeks and banned from ever keeping pets again yesterday.
His parents Ian, 59, and Mandy, 47, were banned from keeping pets for three years for failing to treat the dog's chronic skin condition, and were given a community sentence.
