About me

Hi I'm mum to five children ages 24,21,17,4 and 6 months. On April 10th 2007 I had a darling little boy who only lived for 25hrs we called him Mackinnley and he had a chromasomal disorder trisomy13/Patau's syndrome. I went to the hospital because my baby was not moving very much and they told me he would be delivered that day,as he wasn't growing as he should be. I wasn't too worried as my eldest had been 7wks early and he was fine.Mackinnley would be born at 32wks. He was born by emergency c-section and the doctor told me he had a cleft lip and palate again not worried, then they said he had an ear that hadn't formed correctly and that he also had extra fingers and toes. I asked what they did with those and he said they just tie them and they just drop off. Okay we thought and went to see him he looked so cute in his yellow hat all pink and healthy breathing by himself so we left and went to sleep. The next morning the consultant told us he had a few more problems and it looked like a syndrome patau's otherwise known as trisomy 13. We tried to take it all in but when we were told he little chance of survival it kind of got a bit foggy. We finally got a print out from a nurse from the computer and realised how bad it was. We had Mackinnley baptised and hoped they could be wrong but they weren't and sadly his dad and I were holding him together when he fell asleep. The look of peace and contentment on his face as he fell asleep for the last time is one I will always remember, he was in no pain anymore and it was easy to see. The saddest thing of all is that trisomy 13 can be detected by scan. Mine said perfect for all major organs part of Mackinnley's brain was missing and this should have been noticed. We were told sorry what can we say by the nhs there's been a then he struggled to find the word human error I said and they agreed. I am so glad I had my darling little boy and wouldn't change it for the world.
