Hello I am a mother and grandmother, my eldest beautiful daughter was murdered on the 10th September 2008 along with another friend by someone Julie knew for 20 years, not sure how long Struan knew the murderer, they were brutally murdered, the murders were horrific, a heinous crime to say the least, my daughter had been hacked with a butchers meat clever, twenty two times and Struan thirteen times, (they both had defence wounds on them), and monster set the kitchen on fire, Julie was burnt in the fire, along with some of the evidence, not all was burnt, 10 more minutes and Struan would have been burnt, only DNA could determine if it was our Julie, the person always said how he adored Julie, they caught him within hours, he has yet to go to trial, he should never be released as he is a danger to the public, he will do this again, he has already served 3 years in prison, for attempted murder, and grievous bodily harm, the coward stabbed the victim (another friend) over thirty times, the victim was asleep at the time, what a coward, and was out of prison six weeks, still in another state (Queensland), and came to Canberra, only 10 days in Canberra Australia when he committed the murders. The committal will start on the 22nd July 2009 and will go for about eight days, Canberra is a small state compared to others, it is the worst double murder case to ever happen in Canberra. The committal went for seven day's, and was an open court, magistrate Beth Campbell said she'd heard enough and McDougall had a case to answer.
UPDATE MONSTER HAS BEEN COMMITTED TO TRIAL FOR TWO COUNTS OF MURDER AND ARSON, WILL GO TO COURT 17th OF SEPTEMBER 2009, TO DECIDE WHAT DATE IT WILL BEGIN. UPDATE THERE IS A DATE FOR TRIAL, 5TH OCTOBER 2010.
We now have to wait yet another year because the Supreme Court has a back log. My only hope is that the laws be changed in Canberra, and the new laws include Julie's and Struan's murders, as no one has been charged with murder for eleven years, not that it hasn't happened, they (murderers) only get manslaughter, the norm for manslaughter in Canberra is seven years, sometimes much less, what a disgrace, manslaughter is supposed to be twenty years, no other state have that law where you have to prove premeditated murder, only intent in other states, maybe because it's the Capital of Australia, they like to sweep things under the carpet.
The new murder laws do not include Julie and Struan, I wrote a letter to the Attorney General, he said it was an old law and could not be changed, the law stands at the time the murders were committed, pity they changed the murder law in the first place.
The trial is finished, we are now waiting for the verdict from the judge, I only hope the judge can see through this evil psychopath, and put him away for a very long time, if he is released too soon he will do this again to someone else. The evidence was overwhelming against this evil monster.
VERDICT CAME IN: MONSTER HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH DOUBLE MURDER, PRE-SENTENCING WILL BE ON THE 11TH JULY AND IMPACT STATEMENTS ON THE 12 TH JULY, WE HAVEN'T A DATE YET FOR SENTENCING.
History was made on the 25th March 2011, in Canberra Australia, there hasn't been a murder charge here for 13 years, and never a double murder charge in Canberra. Justice has been done, we beat all the odds against us, we were under the old law and a judge alone trial, the evidence was overwhelming.
DOUBLE LIFE SENTENCE, LIFE MEANS LIFE IN CANBERRA
The monster who murdered my beautiful daughter and another victim, got a double life sentence, life means life in Canberra, monster also got 5 years for arson, as he pleaded guilty. He will never ever be free to do this to anyone else, the families have been through hell, I certainly don't wish this on anyone.
The monster is appealing the sentencing of the other victim, it will be on the 29 - 30 October 2012, I hope they throw this out of court.

The monster who murdered my daughter and other friend, applied for an appeal before three judges, we waited months to see if the judges accepted the appeal, the judges decided to dismiss monsters appeal, so I don't think he will appeal again, the only thing he can do is try the High Court, but I don't think it will be accepted, at last we can try and heal, we have had some good news apart from this, I have two new grandchildren.
