The Most Beautiful Flower
Disillusioned by life
with good reason to frown,
For the world was intent
on dragging me down.
And if that weren't enough
to ruin my day,
A young boy out of breath
approached me,
all tired from play.
He stood right before me
with his head tilted down
And said with great
excitement,
"Look what I found!"
In his hand was a flower
what a pitiful sight,
With its petals all worn
- not enough rain,
or too little light.
Wanting him to take his dead
flower and go off to play,
I faked a small smile and
then shifted away.
But instead of retreating
he sat next to my side
And placed the flower
to his nose and declared
with surprise,
"It sure smells pretty
and it's beautiful, too.
That's why I picked it;
here, it's for you."
The weed before me was
dying......or dead.
Not vibrant of colors,
orange, yellow or red.
But I knew I must take it,
or he might never leave.
So I reached for the flower,
and replied,
"Just what I need."
But instead of him placing
the flower in my hand,
He held it mid-air
without reason or plan.
It was then that I noticed
for the very first time
That weed-toting boy could not see:
he was blind.
I heard my voice quiver,
tears shone like the sun
As I thanked him for
picking the very best one.
"You're welcome,"
he smiled,
and then ran
off to play,
Unaware of the impact
he'd had on my day.
I sat there and wondered
how he managed to see
A self-pitying woman
beneath an old willow tree.
How did he know of
my self-indulged plight?
Perhaps from his heart,
he'd been blessed with
true sight.
Through the eyes of a blind
child, at last I could see
The problem was not with the world
the problem was me.
And for all of those times
I myself had been blind,
I vowed to see the beauty in life,
and appreciate every second that's mine.
And then I held that wilted flower
up to my nose
And breathed in the fragrance
of a beautiful Rose
And smiled as I watched
that young boy,
another weed in his hand
About to change the life
of an unsuspecting old man.

Dear Mr. Hallmark,
I am writing you from Heaven,
and though it must appear
A rather strange idea,
I see everything from here.
I just popped in to visit,
your stores to find a card.
A card of love for my mother
as this day for her is hard.
There must be some mistake I thought,
every card you could imagine,
except I could not find a card
from a child who lives in Heaven.
She is still a mother too,
no matter where I reside
I had to leave she understands,
but oh the tears she's cried.
I thought that if I wrote to you,
that you would come to know
That though I live in Heaven now,
I still love my mother so.
She talks with me, and dreams with me,
we still share laughter too,
memory's our way of speking now,
would you see what you could do?
My mother carries me in her heart,
her tears she hides fropm sight.
She writes poems to honor me
sometimes far into the night.
She plants flowers in my garden,
there my living memory dwells
She writes to other grieving parents
trying to ease their pain as well.
So you see Mr Hallmark
though I no longer live on earth
I must find a way
to remind her of her wondrous worth.
She needs to be honored
and remembered too.
Just like the children of earth
today will do.
Thank you Mr. Hallmark,
I know that you'll do your best
I have done all I can do;
to you I'll leave the rest.
Find a way to tell her
how much she means to me
until I can do it for myself
when she joins me in eternity.

TO THOSE I LOVE AND WHO LOVED ME
When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess,
How much you gave me happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I travel alone.
So grieve a while, for if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on,
So if you need me, call me and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear
All of my love around you soft and clear.
And then when you come this way home,
I'll greet you with a smile and say, "Welcome".

To Dance With Butterflies
Walking in the garden path
Where trees dripped in foggy dew
The day seemed quite dreary to me
Thinking no sun would ever shine through.
There I took my time
Embracing the quiet solitude
While many times in my mind
Crossed ... memories of you.
As I walked around a stone laden path
There stood a little girl
Where a ray of sunshine broke throught the trees
Illuminating her golden curls.
I stood there mesmerized
In what I held before my tear stained eyes
Watching her dance ... in her white satin dress
With hands held up to the skies
With the prettiest smiile
I think I have ever seen.
There I noticed in my amazement...
She was dancing with butterflies.
I gasped ... for in a flutter of gentle wings
They would land upon her golden hair
"To be that child once again", I sighed
"Without a worry or a care.
As I stood there she looked up at me
I saw the joy in her beautiful eyes
There two golden wings would open
Spreading slowly ... from side to side.
Without her even knowing
She had taught my heart so very much
Without a single word spoken
Or by a hand's gentle touch.
Then the thought crossed my mind, "Was she an angel?"
Sent to guard the butterflies
Or to bring the joy unto my heart
To help dry the tears I've cried.
Then she said ...
This one little phrase
That I will remember
For the rest of my days
"Our days can be whatever we make them
No matter to the clouds in the skies
For we can embrace each moment
We can dance with the butterflies".
There in my overwhelming joyfulness
I fell to my knees and cried
As I looked back up, wiping the tears from my eyes
The little girl was gone...
Except for my chance...
To dance with the butterflies.

Hugs From Heaven
When you feel a gentle breeze
Caress you when you sigh
It's a hug from Heaven
From a loved one way up high.
If a soft and tender raindrop
Lands upon your nose
They've added a small kiss
As fragile as a rose.
If a song you hear fills you
With feeling of sweet love
It's a hug from Heaven
From someone up above.
If you awaken in the morning
To a bluebird's chirping song
It's music sent from Heaven
To cheer you all day long.
If little tiny snowflakes
Land upon your face
It's a hug from Heaven
Trimmed with Angel lace.
So keep the joy in your heart
If you're lonely my dear friend
Hugs that are sent from Heaven
A broken heart will mend.
