I'm often searching the internet for poems and small verses to put on memorial pages and candles, so i thought it would be a good idea to start a thread, whereby we add any we have for everyone to use.
I'll start...
MY GRANDCHILD AND I
We are connected my Grandchild and I,
by an invisible cord not seen by the eye.
This cord it works right from the start,
it binds us together attached to my heart.
I know it's there though no one can see,
the invisible cord from my grandchild to me.
The strength of this cord is hard to describe,
it can't be destroyed, it can't be defied.
It's stronger than any cord that man can create,
it withstands the test and can hold any weight.
And though you can't be here anymore with me,
the cord is still there but no one can see.
It pulls at my heart I am bruised and sore,
but this cord is my lifeline as never before.
I am thankful at least that we can connect in this way,
a Nan and a grandchild they can't take it away.

a poem i wrote...
are you sitting staring at the screen
do you wait until your eyes are almost closed
do you pray the phone will ring
and panic when it does..
do you avoid the shops that sell his favourite things
rush past the aisle that has his favourite food
look at young boys and want to hold them tight
want to smell them and feel their stubbly face
do you think you have a sign
that says avoid this woman at all costs
do you feel like you are losing everyone
your son has gone and now your friends
do you pray that life is short
have no plans or hopes
do you wonder who you are
cant remember before
well my friends its so clear to me
you are a bereaved mum too
a member of this group
i would know you anywhere
you have the haunted look
of a mum so full of pain
others dont see your hurt
i see it clear as day.........

i have read all your poems and they are so sad but true. i espesially like the mummy one. my daughter had a baby born asleep six weeks ago and your poem says it all... i so want to hug her and talk to her but i can.t get her to put her barriers down. she is so putting on a brave face but i cn see the hurt in her eyes. thank you for such lovely thoughts. my heart goes out to you ,, jan

Dear Mother, Dry your tears, you know I love you so
It hurts me much to see you cry. Oh Mother don’t you know
I’ll never leave you all alone; I never left your heart
God took me by the hand that day but said wed never part
He kept his promise to me. I visit all the time
You are the sweetest mother an angel here could find
If I could write a letter I’m sure you know I would
To let you know am safe from harm and heaven is so good
I’m here with many angels so many that you know
Our family sends their love to you on earth below
We know one day well meet again.
When one day you come home
We’ve saved a place for you
Dear Mum it’s near our Fathers throne
Well wrap our arms around you Mum
And lead you up God’s stairs
Till then Dear Mum

A CANDLE NEVER LIT
A candle never lit is like.............
A prayer never said, or that promise never kept,
A hand never offered to help,or a smile never offered in frienship,
A hurt never forgiven,or a wound never healed,
A kiss never asked for,or a hug never accepted,
A love never pursued,or a dance never danced,
A song never sung,or those words never spoken,
A child never born,or a flower never allowed to bloom,
A risk never taken,or a room you never come out from,
A wall never climbed,or that path never taken,
A child never knowing their grandparents,or that card never sent,
A mercy never given,or a hate never left behind,
A baby never suckeld,or a tear never shed,
Light that candle that sits so gloom and cold,
Bring a truth to you life before you are to old.

Tiny Little Halo
Tiny little fingers,
Tiny little toes,
Tiny rosebud lips of pink,a miracle I know,
I could not wait to see you and hold you close to me,
But found instead,that some things are never meant to be,
Tiny little Halo,above your tiny heaed,
I know that God has chosen you, to be with him instead.

Mummy
Mummy I know you love me and mummy I know you care,
Mummy I know how sad you are and can see all your tears,
Mummy I know how much you wanted me and to forever hold me tight,
Mummy just look at the night sky and find the the star so bright,
Mummy I am with you,every step along the way,
Mummy you will see me again, and then we will play,
Mummy please remember God only takes the best,
So mummy he took me to be with the rest,
Mummy I know it's hard for you and I love you so,
But mummy please know,there is a special place that all Baby Angels go,
So mummy try and smile for me, and please let love remain,
For one day when the time is right, we will be together again.

Today
Today is just another day like all the days before,
Today I know I will cry again and then cry some more,
Today just as normal I will be wishing you were here,
Today I will be wishing that you were still near,
Today I may just stay in my bed,
Today can I face the world, when you should be here instead?
Today I will try and an effort make,
Today I may even go and bake a cake,
Today will soon be over but my pain will always stay,
Today will be another day just like yesterday,
Today I will try and smile and send you all my love,
Today I have to remember you are an Angel up above,
Today and today and for the today's ever more,
Today I know I will cry just like the days before.

Walking in that special way
Then reality set in
And I knew it couldn’t have been
But for the briefest moment
I was able to pretend
And think of all the great things
That really should have been
But a brief moment to pretend
Was all I was allowed
As the boy who looked like you
Walked into the crowd
I wanted to follow him
Get a glimpse maybe a hug
But I knew it wasn’t you

So I wiped away my tears
And slowly walked away
My broken heart was aching
