Putting our pets to sleep

I like many others chose to let my pet be put to sleep, I found this so hard to do and come to terms with, I still feel much guilt for doing this almost 2 years after I let my Cat Ollie Dude go.
Do others here who have been faced with this dilemma feel the same or is it just myself, I know in my heart I did what I did to stop my pet from unnecessary suffering but still it doesnt stop me feeling guilty, I hated having to do as I did, and I feel as if the guilt will never leave me,is this a natural reaction , or am I being over sensitive. I wish I knew. Any advice welcomed.

RE: Putting our pets to sleep

Sometimes we all have to make these heart breaking decisions i think you did what needed to be done, as its better to sleep than suffer and its hard to get over but always think on the bright side at least it is at peace now with all the other animals in pets heaven bless it xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Im sure its just a normal reaction to have, you obviously have done the very best thing for your beloved pet.I in fact have dont have that choice as my "baby" Milly a 1 year old cat has gone missing for 3 days now,I am beside myself hoping and praying she isnt hurt somewhere and needs me.Im thinking of you at this time xx

RE: Putting our pets to sleep

I know exactly what you mean.

I had to have my beloved horse Morgan put to sleep last year and the day i took him to the vets it was just supposed to be for a x-ray etc. I had to leave him there and i feel guilty still knowing he never got to see his home or best horsey friend again.

I kept asking my Partner if it was all my fauly and i felt i had let Morgan down.

Its a way in which we grieve for them and i dont think we will ever stp feeling guilty but we know deep down that it was not our fault and that they had to go because god only takes the best.

RE: Putting our pets to sleep

It was the hardest thing ive had to do but knew it had to be done i could'nt see my taurus suffer anymore he died were he would have liked in his mummys arms but i had to bring him home were he belonged we have a ern with his ashes on the windowsill and he gets his kisses goodnite by all the family everyday, the thought we'd have to do it again 6 months later with his baby girl missi she was delivered by me as were her bro's n sis's she was always special but developed epilepsy we done every thing we could to stop the fits but they kept coming and got worse which gives her brain dammage every fit she's had it was heart breaking but now shes were she's ment to be with her daddy n she can play n shake her head without havin a fit
it is a hard thing to do but if you love your pet as much as you want them to stay with you you can find it in you to make that hardest choice even if it breaks your heart x

RE: Putting our pets to sleep

I had to have Pepe put to sleep and it was the most horrid thing I had to do, guilt I still feel guilty after three years. His whole system was shutting down he was suffering and I couldn't bare to see him suffer any longer but it doesn't stop me from feeling very guilty.
